The Crucible, a new snooker club aimed at providing a dedicated space for snooker enthusiasts and promoting the sport in Wokha, was inaugurated at Yikhow Complex, Tsumang Colony, Wokha, on Saturday.
Wokha Town Council Chairman W. Myingthungo Kikon, who attended the programme as the inaugural guest, ceremonially cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the club.
The programme was chaired by Lirhonthung Kithan, former president of the Lotha Students’ Union (LSU). It began with an invocation prayer by Thungbeni Ngullie, followed by a welcome address by Y. Chumdemo Murry, proprietor of The Crucible.
Delivering the inaugural address, Wokha Town Council Chairman W Myingthungo Kikon welcomed the establishment of the new space for snooker players in the town.
He noted that facilities such as The Crucible could provide young people with constructive avenues to pursue their interests while encouraging discipline, interaction and healthy competition. He encouraged the management to maintain the standards of the club and ensure that it remains a positive environment for players and visitors. He also encouraged the management to look beyond the inauguration and work towards sustaining the club in the long term.
In his address, Murry shared the vision behind establishing The Crucible and its objective of creating a dedicated and well-regulated space for people interested in snooker.
He also outlined the club’s plans to host the Nagaland Open Tournament and a district-level tournament every year. The initiative, he said, would provide opportunities for local players to participate in competitions and help create greater interest in snooker.
The Crucible will remain open from Monday to Saturday, from 11:00 am to midnight, with each game priced at Rs 200. Food will also be available at the venue.
The club will also offer membership, with members entitled to a 10 percent discount. According to the organisers, the membership facility is intended to encourage regular users and players to make greater use of the club.
The organisers have also placed emphasis on maintaining a regulated atmosphere at the venue. Smoking and the use of intoxicants will not be permitted within the premises, with the club intended to function as a clean and disciplined space.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Yanrenthung Humtsoe, President of the Wokha District Sports Association and Chairman, MSMEPCI, Wokha District, followed by a benediction prayer by Thungjamo Odyuo.
The Crucible is located at Yikhow Complex, Tsumang Colony, Wokha.
