Nise Meruno - Classical performer par excellence
Although Nise Meruno, considerably well-know outside Nagaland, has carved a niche for himself in the local music scene, few Nagas know him as the prominent performer. Nise is 24, belonging to the Angami community and hails from Khonoma village in Kohima, the state Capital of Nagaland.
Recently, he was in the Capital where he brought his Korean friend and fellow-performer, Hur Chul Young for the musical extravaganza ‘Reverie’. An accomplished concert pianist and talented Bass baritone, Nise studied music at the Singapore School of Church Music and presently lives in Delhi. Fitting to a performer of his caliber, he is a recipient of several awards. He was awarded the Performer’s Certificate for proficiency in both piano and voice from Trinity Music College. He is also the recipient of Performer’s Award for outstanding performance in music from the National University of Singapore.
Nise has performed extensively in Singapore, Malaysia and was also invited to sing Handel’s Messiah with the Jakarta Festival Chorus in 2001. Just recently he had performed a Bass Baritone solo for Puccini’s Messa Di Gloria along with Hur Chul Young under the baton of BBC’s Conductor George Rose at the prestigious TATA Theatre, Mumbai. Nise along with Situ Singh Buehler, India’s best known Soprano, and Hur Chul Young on invitations perform regularly at various Embassies in Delhi and also all over the country endeavoring to promote western classical operatic music.
Nise lives in Delhi where he enthralls audiences with his performance both in piano and voice and is now a well-known figure in the music circles of the metropolitan city. He has also accompanied the Capital City Minstrels and also the Neemrana Choir, Delhi in a concert. Nise will be performing for George Bizet’s Opera The Pearl Fishers in Delhi and Mumbai sometime later in August and September this year. His scintillating performance at Kohima has been received well by music enthusiasts. Nise Meruno said he was happy to be in his hometown to perform and at the same time to promote musicians in Nagaland. Nise also expressed his gratitude to his friend Hur Chul Young for coming to Nagaland.
