The Nagas firmly and steadfastly stand as a sovereign and independent nation, and marching ahead to reach our destiny, that is for recognition of our sovereignty by the world, is the value of observing the Naga National Days.
But some Nagas are observing the Days, and yet they firmly stand on a framework agreement for demanding a political status from India. They honored and respectfully hoisted the Naga National Flag on the Naga National Days, but demanding it again from India. And some people are supporting and expecting a solution from India. This is not how we should value the celebration of Naga National Days.
The Nagaland has no part and parcel of India or Burma from time immemorial. In addition, the Nagas declared their age-old Independence before India and Burma became independent nations. The Nagas, therefore, have nothing to demand any political status or independence from India or Burma.
The Declaration of Independence was reaffirmed by 99.9% of the Naga people when the NNC conducted a Plebiscite on May 16, 1951, and voted to remain an independent nation as in ancient times. That was a final verdict and solution for the future of Nagaland. Therefore, the Naga need no more solution nor another referendum again.
It would not be a matter, if all the organizations and factions firmly stand as a sovereign nation without going against the NNC and neither stand for another political solution from a foreign country, India, then that would bear the value of celebrating the Naga National Days. But factions denounced that the NNC surrendered and yet on the other hand they are observing the Naga National Days which is ridiculous to themselves alone.
Leaders of the NNC
By observing the Naga National Plebiscite Day, we are also respecting and honoring the NNC leaders, because they steadfastly upheld the national principle enunciated in the Plebiscite of 1951 in their times. If one of them failed, today we won’t have the right to celebrate it. The NNC President from the beginning up to date are as follows:
The first President of NNC was T Aliba Imti, the Second, Mhondamo Kithan, the third Visar Angami, the fourth Dr AZ Phio, and the fifth is a daughter of Phizo, Adinno, from 1990 to date. All Nagas are regarding and honoring them as great leaders of NNC. Besides them, no other NNC President.
The Naga people recognized Dr AZ Phizo as the Father of the Naga nation. On April 30, 1990, he passed away in London. Then within three hours, the senior Executive members of NNC, the late Khodao Yanthan and Late Yongkong Nangshi entrusted Adinno Phizo as an Acting President of the NNC, and the Oath of office was administered by Late Khodao Yanthan on May 7, 1990 and a prayer invoked by Dr VK Nuh.
Again, on May 12, 1990, in an emergency meeting of the NNC held in Kohima Village, Adinno was entrusted as full-fledged President of the NNC. And then her leadership was unanimously affirmed and approved by the Naga people when the NNC General meeting was held at Longmisa Village, in Ao Region on March 11-12, 1991. The meeting also gave the power to the President of the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN), Late Zashei Huire to confer the Plenipotentiary power to the NNC President Adinno Phizo to speak on behalf of Nagaland and Naga people abroad.
As soon as the NNC General meeting was over, the President of FGN duly conferred the Plenipotentiary power to the NNC President Adinno Phizo. Without descending the leadership and power as mentioned above, no one has the right to claim as President of the NNC.
To pray for the Naga nation
The God of Nagas and Universal God bestowed sovereignty to the Nagas and the Nagas celebrated the 75th Naga Independence Day on 14th August 2022, that’s how the world knows it. But foreign occupational forces are still in our land, and so all Nagas should always pray for their withdrawalfrom Nagaland, and the recognition of Nagaland as a sovereign nation by the world. But not to pray for a political solution from India. Because God has given us Independence and will not withdraw it again in the interest of a political solution. We should understand the will of God and should not pray in against Him,
God bless Nagaland.
