As part of the 40:20 seat sharing pact between the NDPP and BJP, the party tickets for the Dimapur II, Dimapur III, and Ghaspani II Assembly Constituencies would be allotted to the sitting Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party MLAs, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced on Friday.
“Two for them, three for us, and we have already committed that ticket will be given to the MLA who is currently representing the constituency,” Rio stated while addressing the inaugural programme of the NDPP Dimapur Region office in Duncan Basti. Accordingly, he said that former Naga People’s Front MLAs Moatoshi Longkumer (Dimapur II) and Azheto Zhimomi (Dimapur III) who recently joined the NDPP would be contesting for the seats in their respective constituencies, should the elections be held before a solution to the Naga political issue is arrived at. For the Ghaspani II Assembly Constituency, incumbent MLA Zhaleo Rio would remain the party’s candidate.
Rio said that while there was much speculation about the seat sharing deal and the strength of the alliance, “there is no confusion,” and it was only a matter of the two parties helping each other out. “We have to help one another, even in Dimapur I and Ghaspani I, we can help BJP, BJP also can help us; that is the spirit of alliance, and we will carry forward this formula to the whole state,” he added.
