The Oriental College Kohima (OCK) today observed its 27th Freshers’ Day at the College Auditorium with Nagaland Higher Education & Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along as the special guest.
The Minister inaugurated the college museum and also launched the college website developed by Excellogics Tech Solutions Pvt Ltd.
The Minister insisted that there should be only one students’ body in the colleges in the form of Students’ Council. Imna Along reminded of the order issued by Higher Education Department that there should be no different tribal students’ bodies in the college except the students’ council of the college.
“Outside the campus, you belong to a student body you are affiliated with your community but inside the campus you belong as one,” he said. “Learn to respect each other and be one,” Along said.
He called upon the students to do away with ‘ism’ and also challenged them and not to bringing in any divisive though process in them.
Meanwhile, the minister said the commitment of the government of the day led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the commitment of the higher education department is that it want to envision excellent human resources output for the institutions of Nagaland’s higher education.
Times are changing. Circumstances are changing. As government, we are committed to see you, to be the best output, he said.
The Minister also told the students that they can be human resources asset not only to Nagaland but to the rest of the country and to the world. “You are not here only to get literate. You are here to get educated,” he said adding that they (students) have the future not only for themselves but for “your people, for your state, for your community and for the nation.”
“Our ingenuity and our sincere attitude have to be inculcated,” he said. “God has good plan for all of you. Do well, work hard and smile all the time,” he said. He also told the students to dream together, aspire together and help one another.
Touching on scholarship matter, the minister said that the Government of India is willing to give scholarship in one installment. “The department is committed to give your scholarship,” he said.
Stressing on the need to upgrade the skills, he said “Every higher education institutions should have a skill hub.” “We are looking for partnership to do that,” he said.
He said that the government will be calling for discourse with the concerned colleges to work out the strategy. “We should have skill attitude and aptitude in us,” the minister said.
Further, he minister told the teachers to help students to become better than them, more knowledgeable than them and mor w e stronger and wiser than them.
‘Embrace every opportunity’
OCK Principal Dr Khriereizhünuo Dzüvichü maintained that the 27th Freshers’ Day of the college marks a significant milestone for 122 freshers who had joined the college this year, embarking on a new journey of higher education and personal development and growth.
“We are always there to support you and we challenge and urge you to embrace every opportunity that come on your way,” she told the freshers.
Keviratuo Jerry and Kükhrülü Medeo spoke on behalf of seniors and juniors respectively. Imtiyanger and Khriesanuo Zhale were declared as Mr. Fresher and Miss Fresher respectively.
The occasion witnessed special performance and appearance from Menguseü Suokhrie, Theja Sekhose, Director TS Academy of Design and Hikali Achumi, Miss Nagaland 2022. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Mhabeni Kikon while Menuotuolie James Yhome led the second session. Vote of thanks was proposed by Chibeni Murry, vice principal, (Administration), Oriental College Kohima. Earlier, Theyiesituo Kuotsu, assistant pastor CRC Kohima village invoked God’s blessings.
