Thongtso village incident: DGP Nagaland monitoring situation, orders SIT probe

Additional Security Forces along with the State Special Task Force deployed at different strategic locations

Tuensang, November 19 (MExN): A Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Police Headquarters (PHQ) has been constituted by the order of DGP Nagaland to 'ensure a speedy and fair investigation' into the Thongtso village incident, an official statement said today. 

On November 18 evening, extensive raids at suspected locations were carried out under the supervision of Addl. SP and SDPO Tuensang and 4 weapons have been seized, informed the statement from Public Relation Officer (PRO), District Executive Force (DEF), Tuensang.

A criminal case has been registered vide Thonoknyu PS Case No. 02/20 U/S 302/307/326/120(B)/435 IPC r/w 25(1b) Arms Act, it said.  

The incident occurred in the early hours of November 18 when one person was killed on the spot while another was injured in an alleged attack by miscreants in Thongtso village under Noklak district. According to official sources, 8 houses and a Morung were also burned down in the incident.

Meanwhile, the PRO DEF Tuensang's statement informed that the  DGP Nagaland along with the Commissioner, Nagaland and IGP (R), Nagaland rushed to Tuensang on the same day of the incident to assess the situation.

Additional Security Forces along with the State Special Task Force has been deployed at different strategic locations in and around the affected place to prevent further escalation of violence, it said. 

The DGP Nagaland has sent a strong message that “no perpetrators shall be spared, and strict action shall be initiated, as per law against persons involved in the incident,” it added.
