Dimapur, May 16 (MExN): Thadou Human Rights Advocacy (THRA) has issued a statement alleging intimidation and suppression of voices within sections of the Thadou community, while questioning the legitimacy of certain organisations claiming to represent Thadou interests in Manipur.
In a media release issued on May 16, THRA strongly criticised a recent statement issued by the Thadou Inpi General Headquarters (TI-GHQ), alleging that the organisation does not hold a genuine mandate from the broader Thadou community.
It further alleged that the individuals were aligned with the Kipgen clan and were functioning as proxies of the Kuki National Front. The THRA claimed that the group operates through armed intimidation and exerts influence largely along the Kangpokpi–Motbung stretch of the Dimapur–Imphal Road in Kangpokpi district, claiming that its influence has not extended beyond this “armed-controlled zone.”
THRA also alleged that sections of the Thadou community, particularly in parts of Kangpokpi district, continue to face intimidation and restrictions under the influence of armed groups and their alleged proxies.
To this end, the organisation called upon the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to intervene and ensure restoration of law and order in Thadou-inhabited areas, besides safeguarding the rights and security of the community.
THRA further maintained that certain organisations, including TI-GHQ and allied bodies, do not represent the broader aspirations of the Thadou people and urged authorities to ensure that the community’s rights, identity, and internal affairs are protected from external interference.
The organisation also demanded measures to ensure security and protection of residents in affected areas, while asserting its commitment to safeguarding the distinct identity, rights, and dignity of the Thadou community.
