LONGLENG, SEPTEMBER 4 (MExN): The District Health Society, Longleng, concluded a three-day district-level Dakshata training programme for Medical Officers, Community Health Officers (CHOs) and Staff Nurses from September 2 to 4 at the CMO Conference Hall, Longleng.
According to an update from the CMO office, the training was aimed at providing technical updates and standardising skills of healthcare providers to improve maternal and newborn health (MNH) care during institutional deliveries.
In his inaugural address, Dr Imtijungshi Aier, DPO (RCH/UIP), welcomed the participants and said the primary objective of the training was to enhance the skills and confidence of healthcare providers in delivering quality intrapartum and immediate postpartum care, thereby reducing maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. He added that the training formed part of a broader effort to strengthen healthcare systems and improve outcomes for mothers and newborns across the district.
The sessions were conducted by Dr Nounenuo Terhase and Dr Dennis Chingpen, Senior Specialists (OBGYN) at District Hospital, Longleng, using a mix of training approaches to ensure effective learning.
Key topics covered included routine care of mothers and newborns; prevention, identification and management of complications such as postpartum haemorrhage, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia; newborn resuscitation; newborn infections; management of labour rooms; biomedical waste management; safe childbirth checklist; postpartum family planning counselling; and recording and reporting.
The three-day programme also featured demonstrations, skill practice using models and mannequins, discussions of best practices, and a labour room visit at District Hospital, Longleng.
