
Kohima, May 11 (MExN): Thungchamo, a pioneer in the formation of Pochury tribe and father of Yitachu, parliamentary secretary for veterinary & animal husbandry expired on May 10 last.
“He was an able social reformer and a pioneer in the formation of Pochuy tribe,” said Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) president Abel Sor Thuer in a condolence message received here today.
He served for the upliftment of the downtrodden and for the welfare of the society at large, the PSU said adding his sudden demise was a great loss to the Pochury community and the hollow left by it cannot be replaced by any.
During his life time he served in various organizations in different capacities. One of his remarkable contributions to Pochury society was that in 1961 he published a Pochury Hymnals called “Akhwipa” from Rangoon and the second edition from Imphal in 1964, the PSU said.
Born to Lt. Kotü in 1937 at Yisi village in Meluri Sub Division of Phek district, he did his early education from GPS Yisi and High School from Imphal and Shillong. He married Khrisi on December 23, 1963 at Shatüza village. He is survived by four sons, four daughters, four grandsons and eight grand daughters.
