On the evening of January 1, at around 4pm, Khisang, Advisor to the Tikhir Tribal Council, his driver and another person were on their way to Shamator from Dimapur when they were reportedly ambushed by unidentified gunmen at Horangkyu Project area, 45 km away from Kiphire.
This correspondent met the TTC Advisor who is currently camping at Kiphire Town. As per his version, they were on their way to Shamator. They learning that Shamator village was ‘excommunicated’, due to the complete blackout of electricity from Shamator town to Shamator village, due to the prevailing situation between the Yimchunger and the Tikhir communities on holding of YAA Conference. On reaching the Horangkyu Project area they observed some suspicious movement for which the driver was instructed to make a U-turn towards Kiphire.Before the vehicle could be reversed, heavy shots were fired at the vehicle and miraculously, all the three occupants escaped.
The place of occurrence was verified by DC and SP Tuensang on January 2 while on their way to Tsurungto EAC H/Q .No information has been received on whether the bullet-riddled vehicle has been towed to the Police Station at Shamator or the Police Station at Tuensang till the filing of this report. Situation is tense at Kiphire district but is under control.
