WHILE MAINTAINING that the Tikhirs are not a dialect group (sub tribe) but a distinct tribe with its own language, traditions, customs, territory, etc the Tikhir Students’ Union (TSU) has called upon the Governor of Nagaland to facilitate and open an official discussion between the Tikhir and Yimchunger tribe, to be witnessed by the Government of Nagaland, different Hohos, NPMHR, students’ bodies, churches, etc.
This demand of the Tikhirs comes in the wake of the students’ wing taking strong exception to the memorandum submitted to the Governor by the Yimchunger Students’ Union/ Yimchunger Ahheru Arihakio (YAA) asking for action against top Government functionaries of Kiphire and Shamataor in relation to the holding of TSU Silver Jubilee.
Justifying that their silver jubilee celebrations was purely a students’ affair and “a time of celebration and acknowledgement on attaining its 25th year,” the TSU in a press communiqué stated that the YAA’s claim of Anatongre Village being under its jurisdiction was completely ‘illogical’. Further, it was stated that no person or organization in a right frame of mind would try to stop another’s’ Silver Jubilee or Conference. The Tikhirs, also expressed displeasure over the manner in which those opposing the jubilee celebration had stopped Heno, MLA, the chief guest of the TSU Jubilee and other programme officials with intimidation and false propaganda.
“The YAA calling for action against top officials from Kiphire and Shamator is as utopian and foolish as man longing for complete darkness (and calling upon) the Sun and Moon to stop giving out its natural light.”
