Timber in Peren district banned from 15th June

Peren | May 7 : Timber logging business in Peren district will be prohibited with effect from 15th June till October 2011 stated a press release issued by the Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Nagaland).
The decision was made after a consultative meeting held on 7th May 2011 at Jalukie Administrative rest house between Zeliangrong Students Union Nagaland and Nagaland Timber Traders’ Union (NTTU) in the presence of Zeliangrong Baudi president (AMN), Tribunal AZSU (AMN) and tribunal ZSUN.
The meeting was called to discuss issues arising out of the ban imposed on timber/log operation within Peren district, the press note signed by the President and General secretary of the ZSUN stated.
After a long deliberation both the unions resolved to close timber logging during monsoon season starting from 15th June till October 2011, it said. The NTTU further assured that it shall apprise the government to repair and maintain the road within Peren district and acknowledged the union not to extend contract with the villagers, the note further stated.
