Time for Action: Tuensang deliberates on road safety

Tuensang, October 18 (DIPR): The motor Vehicle Department, Government of Nagaland conducted a programme of Road Safety Awareness at Tuensang on October 18 at CKS HALL Tuensang. The programme was conducted with the theme ‘Time for Action’ where L Jamithung Lotha Deputy Commissioner Tuensang was the chief guest.  

The programme was attended by the police personals, traffic, tribal leaders of different tribes, Scouts and Guides and drivers from within the town.  

The keynote address was given by Arenbo Peter, Sr. Motor Vehicle Inspector where he highlighted on the year long road safety calendar being organized by the motor vehicle department. He appraised on the alarming increase cases with regard to road accidence occurring in the county. He also deliberated on the commission of the Nagaland State Road Safety Authority and its ramified network to educate and implement the Road safety agendas to reduce the rate of road accidences. The factor contributing to causing accident is personal related which includes drunken driving, reckless driving etc, he added. The awareness on usage of seat belt, helmets and avoiding using mobile phones while driving has became mandatory, he stated.  

L Jamithung Lotha, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang exhorted all to follow the traffic related rules or the follow the programme related awareness. He also lamented on the need of the proper education on the usage of signals, dipper, and discipline driving which he believed the road related accidents can be minimized. He also asked the law enforcing agencies to come up with the stringent checking on the violation so that the theme ‘Time for action’ shall control the menace.  

Other highlights included response from the Taxi Drivers Union, Drivers Union Tuensang. The programme was led by Pursenla. B Chekum Chang, Sr. Enforcement Inspector summed up the programme with vote of thanks.
