Dimapur, November 2 (MExN): Advisor, Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio on Tuesday stated that it is high time for sportspersons in Nagaland to expose their talents and excel in sports.

“It is high time that our area sportsmen excel and expose themselves so that they acquire recognition at any stage,” Zhaleo said, while speaking as special guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 1st Volleyball tournament for ten west villages under Medziphema Block which began on November 2 at Khaibung Village.

He also urged leaders, coaches, institutes, villages, etc. as well as parents to initiate interest in children’s talent and be mentors towards helping them to achieve a stellar objective in life.

Speaking at the function organised by Ten Villages Council Union, Zhaleo advised youngsters to remain committed in their field of sports and take advantage of different trainings or avenues available today. Rio also assured his support whenever the need arises  to approach the state government or other agencies while adding that, “Only dedicated and excellent performers may be considered in reality,” for which, he urged sportspersons to work hard while encouraging them to comply with Thomas Edison’s famous line, “Success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration.”

He cited examples from the Tokyo Olympics 2020 where Indian medallists from Manipur and Assam toiled extraordinarily for years before they earned their rewards and noted that determination and commitment are the key factors to excel in sports.

On poor road conditions from Medziphema till Punglwa, Rio revealed that there were anomalies and misappropriation in the past which led to deterioration of the said state highway. Reteriating his obligation towards infrastructural development, he clarified that official procedures are already underway which may finally bring about reconstruction of the road and which is proposed to cover Medziphema - Punglwa - Ngalwa - New Chumoukedima/ NH 29.
