At present scenario, environment pollution has become one of the most prior to look upon at local, national, and international level. As our human existence depends entirely on the sun and earth. In the same way, the plants, air, water, fertile soil, forests, grasslands, wetlands, oceans, lakes, wildlife, minerals, and natural purification and recycling process are treated as Earth’s wealth. It also includes the things created by humans as of now. Environment (the Earth) is our home. It is where we live, breathe, eat, get shelter etc. Health environment makes people’s life healthy. It is essential to day to day living. Unfortunately, the environment is in danger. Many species of animals and plants are nearing to its extinction. Our clean water is at risk and more and more of our beautiful, open spaces are disappearing as new buildings and factories are built which gives a thread to environment degradation.
Climate change is one of the most critical global challenges at present times. This issue is immense of important for every global citizen. Few global initiatives are started to prevent climate change like United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention on global warming. The Sustainable Development Goal, officially known as Transforming our world which consist a set of 17 “Global Goal” till 2030 among which goal 3,6,7,11,13,14, and 15 under the initiatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) takes to combat for environment protection.
Seeking more flexible and effective approach to combat for environmental protection in the Country. The Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt of India and Centre for Environment Education (CEE) initiate the “Paryavaran Mitra”, a climate change and sustainability education aiming to reach out to 2 million students in the school setting. Well, looking back to the Nagaland State, with the need of environment protection, Centre for Environment Education (CEE) having its Hq at Ahmedabad is working along with Nagaland Pollution Control Broad (NPCB) to combat environmental pollution in Nagaland. Thought, NPCB and Department of Forest, Ecology, Environment and Wildlife, Govt., of Nagaland along with other Department and some NGOs are working tirelessly for the protection of our environment in the State. However, lack of participation from common citizens towards the environment protection is a great challenge to the State government and other organizations.
Therefore, Earth Friendly Generation (EFG) NGO having its focus area in the field of environment protection in Nagaland has come up with few strategies to protect and conserved environment through peoples participation. Here are some key steps where responsible citizen can keep as tips towards the environment protection:-
1. Improve Building Design: Build more sustainably and for disaster reduction. 2. Promote mass/public transportation: to reduce carbon emissions. 3. Reduce energy use: Always switch off electrical appliance for save energy. 4. Promote Water conservation. 5. Improve waste management. 6. Reduce use of plastic. 7. Proper drainage system. 8. Promote local Organic or Hydroponic Food. 9. Promote sustainable river food. 10. Promote costal habitat and cultural heritage. 11. Keep brook and river clean. 12. Promote Environmental Education. 13. Planning, policy, and management.
Hence, for environmental protection to become a reality, it is very important that every individual participation in every society should be develop and adopt preventive measures on protecting our environment. Whatsoever, EFG in environment protection has become a major art in Nagaland and for this without the help from government, NGOs, and other civil local bodies, it is not possible. Earth Friendly Generation (EFG) would like to appreciate the contribution of individuals, government, NGOs and other civil local bodies towards the environment protection throughout the year and even encourage others who are yet to realize the importance of protecting environment. Thus, at this festive season, let us all celebrate with good fragrance of environment by practicing eco-friendly in the State.
Wishing you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2017.
God Bless Nagaland.
