Dimapur, Feb 22 (MExN): Tizit condemns the assault of one Shingwang Konyak by NSCN-IM cadres under one M Pongwing Konyak, ‘CAO’ of Konyak region, on February 17.
Konyak Union Tizit Unit, Tizit Town Public Union, Tizit Area Students’ Union, Tizit Town Students’ Union and Tizit Auto Union on behalf of the Tizit public strongly condemned the action of the NSCN-IM, Konyak Region, against M. Shingwang Konyak, Action Committee Chairman of TASU, Vice President of TTSU, President of Auto Union Tizit and also the President of Shop Union Tizit.
According to a note from executives of the abovementioned organizations, Shingwang was summoned several times by the ‘CAO’ in connection with the activities of Autos plying under Tizit sub-division. While acknowledging that the victim failed to meet the NSCN-IM functionary, the organizations questioned why he was “picked up from his residence and tied his hands behind and beat up black and blue as if he is like any animals/creatures rather than calling him again and discussed properly the matter?”
Shingwang is “not a mere man like anybody but holds many NGO posts under Tizit sub-division” but the ‘CAO’ should have “known the reason why he (Shingwang) failed to meet him at the stipulated time rather than ordering his cadres to tie and bring Mr. M. Shingwang and also beat up on the way”, the note stated.
“If this thing continues to happen how can anybody be interested in one’s duty as an NGO leader/worker? So, various NGOs Organizations under Tizit Sub-Division invites all the right thinking citizens to condemned such inhuman and barbaric act meted to Mr. M. Shingwang” the organizations declared.
