DIMAPUR, APRIL 7 (MExN): The Nagaland Gaon Buras Federation (NGBF) held its general session in the Lotha Tribal Council Hall recently. Minister for health and family welfare, Dr TM Lotha, speaking as chief guest, encouraged the congregation of more than 600 GBs to work tirelessly and effortlessly. Saying that the village chiefs are the custodians of Naga customary laws and practices, he asked them to follow their forefathers’ tradition of honesty, bravery and hard work while performing their duties.
The Minister stressed on the need to strengthen customary law, tradition and practices, according to a release. Dr Lotha said political appointments of GBs should not be entertained as it damages the image of its legacy in the Naga customary practices.
He also said GBs should be aged men having knowledge of Naga customary laws and not youths who have no experience. The GBs should be aware of the present political situation and therefore involve themselves in the peace process to help shun violence and maintain permanent peace and unity amongst the factions as well as Naga society as a whole to reach at a permanent solution.
The NGBF has also expressed gratitude for the generous donations which made the function a grand success.

However, the house decided to abolish the post of Advisor, NGBF.
