Peren, February 1 (MExN): Tobacco free awareness programme was held at CMO Conference Hall, Peren on January 31. 

Speaking about the aims and objectives of the campaign, Dr Lanuakum, Dy CMO, Peren emphasised about the harmful effects of smoking and the danger of second hand smoke in public places, government offices and homes. He talked about the provision of section-4 of COTPA 2003 which bans smoking in public places.

He urged the participants to stay away from the things that can harm our health and the environment. He encouraged the participants to do away with the use of tobacco. He also motivates the participants to be the living example not to indulge in tobacco products. 

He emphasised that top priority is to avoid combustible tobacco products, and the only way for an individual to completely eliminate tobacco-related harms is not to use them. He motivated the participants to inculcate healthy habits saying that we cannot change our past but we can change our present. He further encouraged the participants not to take tobacco and be champion of tobacco free life.

A pledge was also taken and free IEC materials were distributed, stated a press release issued by Shekho Sophie, District Media Officer, CMO Office Peren.
