Torechu on awarding subsidy only to genuine & diligent farmers

Dimapur: To ensure success of any project implementation in the district, Parliamentary Secretary for Excise, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Economic & Statistics and Chairman of Kiphire District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), T Torechu has insisted on awarding beneficiary schemes only to the genuine and diligent farmers. He also urged upon the officials to properly document list of projects in order to avoid overlapping in the implementation process.

Torechu made this remarks following presentation of reports by various implementation departments on Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) scheme during the monthly DPDB meeting in the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall in Kiphire town on May 6. Noting that some farmers have tendency to avail subsidy in contravention to guidelines, Torechu said beneficiary scheme should be awarded to only the genuine and diligent farmers to ensure success of the projects. While not ruling out other districts, Torechu emphatically said farmers in Kiphire district have inculcated bad culture of hankering after subsidy from different departments without implementing the projects. Currently RKVY schemes are implemented in Zungki valley between Phuvkiu and Phelungre villages.

Torechu also said farmers should reap the fruit of the project and set example to other villages where similar schemes will be implemented in subsequent years. Besides, he suggested the officials to make spot verification to those implementing villages to maintain transparency and ensure success of the projects. He also requested the officials to share knowledge with the villagers to enhance productivity.

Meanwhile, Torechu called upon officers posted in Kiphire not to consider as a punishment but rather take upon the responsibility with pride to serve in one of the most remote areas of the State. He urged the officers to work collectively for the progress of the district and further encouraged the officers to mingle with the local populace in order to foster unity among various tribes in the district.

Torechu also expressed desire to document the project implementation through publication in a monthly journal. He said publication of the journal would highlight success stories to other districts as well as relay new innovations initiated by the district. Further, he announced to confer annual award to the best performing department.

Deputy Commissioner and vice chairman DPDB, Kiphire, Neposo Theluo, also announced about undertaking tree plantation drive on June 5 to commemorate World Environment Day.
