WOKHA, NOVEMBER 1 (MExN): A total shutdown was imposed in Wokha district from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm in protest against the delay in construction of the stretch of NH-2 from Niropen to Hammock Resort.

The shutdown was done following the government’s failure to comply with the ultimatum issued by the Wokha Village Youth Organization (WVYO), Wokha Village Student’s Union (WVSU) and Wokha Village Eloe Ekhung (WVEE) on September 29.

On Monday, a conclave was held at police point, Wokha and the meeting resolved to continue for further course of action if necessary steps are not taken. The conclave decided that after the Tokhü Emong festival, the next course of action would be taken if the government fails to respond.

The public conclave was chaired by Thungben T Humtsoe, President, Wokha Village Youth Organisation. Apex tribal organizations including the Lotha Hoho, Lotha Students’  Union, Lotha Youth Hoho, Wokha Circle Students’ Union, Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industries, WHESYWF, and Longsa Students Union were present.

A press release from the Wokha Village Youth Organisation informed that the next stage of protest would include imposing a closure of the DC office and the PWD (NH) Wokha. It would also include an indefinite bandh on all governmet registered vehicles plying within the NH-61/02 Wokha.
