Touch Jorhat project: Relief fund handed over to DC

Jorhat, August 14 (MExN): The 'Touch Jorhat' project initiated by the I Love Mokokchung Facebook Group in aid of the flood victims of Assam’s Jorhat district culminated today with the formal handing over of the relief money to Jorhat Deputy Commissioner at his official residence.  

The handing over of the money was witnessed by the Border Peace Coordination Committee member, Er. Temsu Wathy, Ward Commissioner (Jorhat), Jayanta Baruah and media persons from Assam.   The Touch Jorhat project, which was a free charity concert held at MMC Shopping cum Parking Complex in Mokokchung Town on July 16, 2016, garnered a total sum of Rs.1,12,000 in cash, informed a press release received here. Organised under the theme, Know thy neighbour, the concert saw more than thirty singers, musicians and artistes performing free of cost. Almost all the citizens, local unions and establishments also contributed physically, financially and logistically, which made the Touch Jorhat a great success, the release added.   While formally accepting the relief fund, the Jorhat DC Virendra Mitral expressed heartfelt gratitude to the ILM Facebook Group and also to the whole citizens of Mokokchung for their solidarity, empathy and concern towards the flood victims of Assam, especially in Jorhat.   The ILM group asked the Jorhat DC to utilize the relief money at his own discretion, the release said. Meanwhile, the DC assured the ILM group that the money will be used judiciously for the welfare of the flood victims in Jorhat.
