Kohima, June 26 (MExN): The Department of Tourism organized a one day workshop for tour guides at its Directorate in Kohima on June 25. Fifty three tour guides from all over Nagaland attended the workshop, which began with exhortation from the Secretary of Tourism, T Mhabemo Yanthan.
He stressed on the importance of fluency in communicating with the tourists and efficiency in delivering service, stated a press release received here. The Secretary also motivated the participants with words of encouragement, it added.
Richard Belho, Architect from Zynorique Initiatives, who was the first resource person, spoke on the career prospect in tourism industry. He opined that government should be considered as a facilitator and not an enterprise or revenue generating industry. While speaking on economic system, Belho stated that Nagas need to work out an ecosystem and systematic procedures for operating a successful business scenario.
The second resource person, David Angami, president of Nagaland Tourism Association shared the guidelines and etiquettes for tour guides, stressing on the importance of good communication skills, organizational skills and ideas on promoting business. He further emphasized on the importance of personal discipline as a tour guide acts as ambassador of Nagaland.
This was followed by an interactive session.
