TPO flays October 6 incident

Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): An irate Tenyimi People’s Organization today lashed out at the GPRN/NSCN at the reported October 6 excesses at Phor village, where one woman was shot and several Tenyimi youths were assaulted by on “lt col” Kuruchu of the GPRN/NSCN. The TPO expressed shock and anger in a message of condemnation received here today.

The TPO vehemently sent out a warning that such excesses against any of the Tenyimia people would not be tolerated at all. “TPO is shocked and angered by the news of the October 6 incident at Phor village, whereby one of our innocent sister Mrs Dalu was mercilessly shot at on the left rib and grievously injured and several of our youths were mercilessly beaten up by a so-called responsible officers of the Naga national worker Lt Col Kuruchu of the GPRN/NSCN without any rhyme or reason,” the TPO said.

The TPO defended the victim – a mother who intervened when her son was being assaulted. The TPO reminded the organization that “it is natural that the victim Mrs Dalu like any mother has every right to intervened when her son or sibling is being mercilessly assaulted” and that too by none other than a cadre of the GPRN/NSCN.

“The TPO condemn in the strongest term the act perpetrated by Lt Col Kuruchu and that it will not tolerate any such act of high handedness and barbarism targeted at our Tenyimi brothers and sisters at this juncture and that too” by a someone who claims to be working for “Naga national cause.”

The TPO had demanded the organization’s authorities to initiate necessary action against the erring cadre immediately so it serves not only as an example to others but also prevent such ugly incidents from recurring in the near future.

“The ghastly and inhuman act committed by lt col Kuruchu not only defies all norms and practices of the Nagas but deserves the highest condemnation by every right thinking citizen. Remember that as per the Naga tradition and practices, it is a taboo to touch or harm woman and particularly the mothers even at time of war or clash between two conflicting parties,” the TPO said.

The Tenyimia organization termed ‘unfortunate’ that the incident took placed at a time when the Naga reconciliation process is at ‘its height’ and “it is afraid that it would create a blot and disturb the reconciliation process.”
