Peren, October 18 (MExN): Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman of Peren DPDB, TR Zeliang called upon the people of Peren district to seriously embrace the culture of wildlife conservation, especially the Great Hornbill, which is being designated as State Bird, in tune with the State Government’s Conservation Policy.
Addressing the officers and community leaders during the Peren DPDB meeting held at DC Conference Hall on October 18, TR Zeliang said, “Peren district is a powerhouse of rich biodiversity resources, however intemperate exploitation through hunting and logging has exterminate many exotic species of flora and fauna which is an issue of concern therefore urgent need to adopt more serious method of conservation in the district.”
A press release from the media cell of Dy CM office stated that TR Zeliang expressed concern over the fact that Peren district has become a “favourite hunting ground” for all sorts of people because of its rich wildlife populations and easy accessibility not only from the district but different parts of the state.
“The only national park of the state, Intangki, has also become a favourite hunting spot, as such, the wildlife populations in the park is gradually vanishing,” he rued. “Despite of the district administration ban order people continue to carry out hunting activities unabated, especially in the interior area,” he added.
In this regards, TR Zeliang urged upon the community leaders to formulate stricter community based regulation on hunting and conservation of biodiversity in their respective area. “Hunting cannot be completely ban as it is part of our traditions since time immemorial but there has to be a proper regulation from the villages or community,” he observed.
With the improvement in road connectivity tourist inflow is expected in the district in the near future and wildlife conservation will be the main tourist’s attraction, he added.
A DIPR report added that board examined the proposal for upgrading the Government High School in Jalukie B to Government Higher Secondary School. The board assessed the need for retaining the Examination Centre (10) at Tening. The proposal to establish a sub-station for Fire and Emergency Services in Tening was reviewed and discussed. The board conducted a comprehensive discussion on these matters and arrived at resolutions to recommend them to the appropriate higher authorities for further consideration.
The Education Department delivered a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, providing an overview of the activities in School Education within the district. They also conveyed their concerns and grievances to the board.
During the meeting, DC and Vice-Chairman DPDB, Vineet Kumar IAS updated the attendees on the allocation of plots to individuals at the New District Headquarters. This was done to expedite development and prevent any potential cancellation of licenses.
