DIMAPUR, MAY 29 (MExN): The Trailblazer Society, a group of Changki young adults from Dimapur in collaboration with Changki Village Council, Merayim Baptist Church and Nokon Baptist Church organized a tree plantation drive at Changki village, Mokokchung district on May 28. 

“The tree plantation drive was conducted with the objective of contributing to the 'green drive' of our country, fighting against global warming and thereby reducing its impact on climate change and ultimately presenting a better environment for the next generation,” stated Dr Temjen Longchari in a press release here.

A total of 2000 saplings of locally available flora which includes cherry blossom tree, orange, oak, pine, moringa, coconut, mango, lemon, litchi, silver oak and other ornamental trees among others were distributed and planted during the tree plantation drive, it said.

The society acknowledged all individuals and households who contributed sacrificially during the crowd funding drive till May 28. It specifically mentioned the grandchildren of Late Rev Longri Ao; T John Longkumer, IPS, DGP Nagaland; Er Sungti Amri, Executive Engineer, CAWD Nagaland; Temjenyapang, IFS, CCF Nagaland; Dr Sentitula, IFS, DFO Mokokchung; Village Council Changki and Youth Department Changki Churches. 

Informing that all the attendees pledged to carry forward the initiative and contribute actively towards increasing the green cover in Changki village and valley which is and still one of the most pristine natural habitats, the release added that the endeavour of the Trailblazer Society is to contribute as much as possible in the ‘Go Green’ initiative of Government of India.
