Trailblazers Society joins anti-tobacco campaign

Dimapur, May 31 (MExN): An awareness campaign was organised by Trailblazers Society in two different schools: The Maple Tree School, Dimapur and Nagaland Police Central School, Chumukedima in collaboration with the schools on May 31 marking the World No Tobacco Day.  

Dr. Temjennungsang Longchari, Dentist, Dental Touch and Facial Aesthetics and also Chairman of Trailblazers Society spoke about dangers of smoking in the midst of students and faculty members.  

He said, “Tobacco is mostly taken by uneducated people. Chewable tobacco Gutkha has nicotine which is addictive and magnesium carbonates which causes lethal heart attack and cancers. Its use negatively affects a student’s ability to learn, decreases concentration in class, increases absenteeism due to illness and of course athletic performance.”  

He also gave a power point presentation on the hazards of tobacco using local examples impacting the mind of the young listeners in both the schools. At the end of the program, students took pledge to say “no to tobacco” and also check “second-hand smoking” in their homes and public places.
