Dimapur, April 7 (MExN): A Training on RTI Act 2005 was organised for the, the BDOs, RDOs and APOs on April 7, 2011 by the Department at the Directorate Conference Hall. The introductory session was chaired by K. Neibou Sekhose, Asst. Director (Training) and the participants were welcomed by the Additional Director, Waichiba who is also the POI of the Department. He reminded the officers of the urgency of RTI bound matters and invited them to approach the Office for any clarifications or problems.
A press note issued by K. Neibou Sekhose, Assistant Director,RD Kohima informed that Commissioner& Secretary, RD, V. Sakhrie, in his speech said it was high time the Officers understand the seriousness of the Act and challenged the Officers to take full opportunity of the training and empower themselves with the correct knowledge. When everything except the internal Security comes under the purview of the Act, we cannot afford to take the Act lightly, he added. While reminding them that any manipulation of furnishing of information is punishable under the Act, he said their duty was to give accurate and timely response.
Er. Worhonthung Ezung, Senior Lecturer, ATI, shared on the “Importance of RTI Act 2005”. Er. Ezung, who is also a state Nodal Officer for RTI, revealed that in a recently conducted study, it was found that more than 90% of RTI applicants were government employees. Using this basis, he highlighted on the importance of the Act in a government set-up and how the public authority can help in checking corruption. He also shared on the importance of good accounts/ record management in a government set-up. He stated that the RTI Act is the only act in the country where the Prime Minister does not have immunity. He also corrected some myths relating to the Act, some of which are, RTI Act is not about creating information but providing it and RTI is not about addressing grievances but to acquire information only. In the afternoon Technical Session, the Officers were assessed on their knowledge of the Act where a surprise test was conducted.
