DIMAPUR, AUGUST 13 (MExN): Training for Child Rights Club leaders was conducted by Child Friendly Dimapur (CFD), AIDA on August 13 at AIDA conference hall. The main intent of organizing the programme was to enhance the leadership skills of the Child Rights Club leaders through capacity building and educating them on the 4 Cardinal Rights of the Children as enshrined in the United Nation Convention for the Rights of a Child (UNCRC).

During the session, the Club leaders were trained on the leadership, characteristics of a good leader, steps to become a good leader and roles and responsibility of the Child Rights Club Leaders. Throughout the training session, the children were motivated and trained to become an influential leader by being a doer.

Later, the children were also taught about violence against children i.e. (1) Exploitation of children in the form of child labor, begging, commercial sexual exploitation of children, child trafficking, use of children in criminal acts (thefts, smuggling, etc), (2) Neglect to the children by being deprived of food, health care, safe health habits, education, physical and emotional care, play and creative activities. (3) Sexual violence (4) Physical & emotional violence.

Having interacted with children after the inputs, it was found that even they had experienced and witnessed number of violence at home, educational institutions, localities, streets, neighborhoods without any consideration of the families who are well-educated or not, rich or poor. Taking note of their issues, the participants were motivated to be more responsive and be more spontaneous to seek help from concerned adults and institutions.

Altogether, 28 Child Rights Club leaders from Northern Angami colony, Senjum village, Rilan, Kacharigaon village, Public Ground colony, Signal Angami and Jolil colony attended the program. Garrol Lotha, Shemang S Phom, Felisita Marak and Sr Jisha facilitated the program.
