
Dimapur, July 17 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised three-day training on “Low cost off season cultivation practices of important horticultural crops” from July 14 – 16.
The programme focussed on imparting technical knowledge to the field functionaries of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in all districts about the latest and most feasible horticultural practices which could be applied during the lean or off season, so as to ensure nonstop production of horticultural crops throughout the year, according to a press release received here.
Director SAMETI, S. Bendangtemsu while welcoming the participants directed them to obtain maximum learning experience from the training for the benefit and uplift of the target group, the farmers. Resource persons for the training program were Dr. Anamika Sharma, Programme Coordinator, KVK Dimapur, ICAR for NEHR Nagaland Centre and Dr. Azeze Seyie Scientist (Horticulture), ICAR for NEHR Nagaland Centre.
The training covered important topics pertinent to Nagaland scenario such as ‘Off season and year round cultivation of vegetables under protected cultivation’, ‘Off season and year round cultivation of flowers under protected cultivation’, ‘Off Season cultivation of cucurbits under low tunnels’, ‘Plug-tray nursery technology for some horticultural crops’, ‘Production systems and media for protected cultivation’, ‘Role of plastic mulching in protected cultivation’. Documentary films on the above topics were also showcased through audio visual aids in order to enhance the learning experience of the trainees.
The valedictory function was chaired by Sentinaro Longchar, DPD SAMETI, while feedback on the training was given by Imti Walling and Chubatsur, BTMs Peren and Zunheboto respectively. Special guest, Dr. Azeze Seyie, Scientist (Horticulture), ICAR for NEHR Nagaland Centre in her valedictory speech cautioned the trainees that they would face a lot of hurdles while working at the field level. However, this being a part of the duties of an extension worker, he stated they should be able to overcome them and play their role as agents of change effectively. She also exhorted them to uphold the spirit of hard work and dedication in all their endeavours.
The training, which saw a good turnout of participants from all districts of the state, concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants by the special guest.
