Kohima, January 30 (MExN): The Department of Horticulture organized training on low cost preservation unit under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) 2017-2018 at conference hall, Directorate of Horticulture, Kohima on January 29.


The training was organized for the beneficiaries from Kohima, Kiphire, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto and Tseminyu. Welcome address was delivered by Deputy Director Horticulture, Mayasashi. 56 beneficiaries attended the training on fruits and vegetable preservation. The Department distributed low cost preservation equipments to all the beneficiaries. The 1st batch of beneficiaries are from Kohima, Kiphire, Phek, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Wokha, Zunheboto and Tseminyu.


The details of the training programme included scope of fruits and vegetables preservation, objective of low cost preservation of fruits and vegetables, technologies for low cost preservation: preparation of Fruit squash (Pineapple, Passion fruit, Citrus, Kiwi); preparation of Jam & Jelly (Pineapple, Plum, Guava); Pickle making (Green Chili, Naga Mircha, Mushroom, Lemon); Fruit candy making (Wild Apple, Aonla, Ginger); Dehydration of fruits using Solar drier( Pineapple, Banana, Passion fruit tea).


Low cost preservation equipments were also distributed.
