Longkhim/Tuensang, October 7 (MExN): District-level training and sensitisation programmes on registration of births and deaths and the online Civil Registration System (CRS) were conducted in Longkhim and Tuensang on October 6 and 7 respectively, for Registrars, Village Council Chairpersons (VCCs) and Anganwadi workers.
In Longkhim, the Department of Economics & Statistics conducted the district/block-level training at the DUDA Hall on October 6.
Extra Assistant Commissioner Longkhim S Chingmei, expressed appreciation to the department and said the training it would benefit functionaries at the grassroots.
She also urged trainees to properly sensitise villagers on birth and death registration and procedures for obtaining certificates.
Additional Director Economics & Statistics Charles N Kikon briefed participants procedures under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, including registration of stillbirths, adopted children, births through surrogacy/ART/IVF, deaths of missing persons and deaths during natural calamities and disasters.
He also highlighted the duties of Registrars, Sub-Registrars and Notifiers and urged trainees to educate villagers on the registration process.

ESO Nchimbamneu Newmai explained the procedure for filling birth and death reporting forms, while FI Pursenla spoke on registration in different situations under the reporting system.
In Tuensang, a district-level training for CRS functionaries, organised by the District Economics & Statistics Office, was held at the ENPO Conference Hall on October 7.
Speaking at the programme, Kikon said the training aimed to address issues arising from the transition from manual to online registration. He said every village and block has a Registrar responsible for recording, verifying and certifying births and deaths within their jurisdiction.
He said registration of every child was the first step towards establishing legal identity, while Village Councils, ASHA and Anganwadi workers serve as Notifiers in their designated jurisdictions.
The Additional Director also stressed the importance of recording and certifying deaths, saying death certificates were equally important for maintaining records and implementing government schemes, State DIPR reported.
