Peren, October 9 (MExN): Training on ‘scientific stingless beekeeping cum input distribution’ was organised by All India Coordinated Research Project, Department of Entomology, School of Agricultural Sciences at Pungalwa village, Peren district on October 8. Altogether 50 trainees from Pungalwa and nearby areas attended the training. 

A press release received here stated that the inaugural programme was chaired by Dr Avinash Chauhan, Principal Investigator and Training Coordinator, All India Coordinated Research Project Honeybees & Pollinators, Department of Entomology. He enlightened the trainees on benefits and importance of stingless bees as an integral part of livelihood and its potential in increasing income of beekeepers. 

Head GB, Adi graced the programme as the special guest while Ramduing, an active member of beekeeping unit of the village said the invocation. 

During the technical sessions, the major focus was kept on the introduction of scientific Meliponiculture. The training coordinator discussed in details the importance of scientific beekeeping with stingless bees and how it could transform the stingless beekeeping in this region. He emphasized on the adoption of scientific equipment of beekeeping and also discussed the importance of product quality in changing market trends. He further stressed on Good Apicultural Practices for more acceptability of stingless bee honey among different parts of the country.

The practical demonstration on colony transfer and multiplication was also given. A query session on the important points on scientific beekeeping was also held. The training concluded with the vote of thanks by Lehie, village council member, Pungalwa village. 

Scientific stingless bee box and bee veils were distributed among the beekeepers for initiation of scientific beekeeping. Later, the Apiaries of beekeepers were also visited with Village Council members.
