
Dimapur, March 21 (MExN): To impart basic field training required for the population census of elephants in Nagaland, one day state level training on ‘All India Synchronized Elephant Population Census 2017’ was conducted on March 21 at the conference hall of Forest Office Complex in Dimapur.
The training was conducted for the staffs under Intanki National Park, Singphan Wildlife Sanctuary, Tuensang Forest Division, Zunheboto Forest Division and the staffs from the Wildlife Wing to be deputed for the elephant census activities, a press release informed.
Dr. Surendra Varma, Research Scientist from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Prof. Eishwar N. Mannay from BNMIT, Bangalore were the resource persons. Caroline Angami, IFS (Wildlife Warden, Dimapur), Heneilung (Director, Intanki National Park), and Samom Khelen Singh, IFS (Wildlife Warden, Kiphire) also participated in the training.
The training, conducted by the Wildlife Wing of Nagaland, Department of Environment, Forest & Climate, Government of Nagaland, was sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India.
It was informed that the resource persons will also be imparting the basic field training to the staffs under Wokha Forest Division and Mokokchung Forest Division on March 22 and 23 respectively.
