Dimapur, March 14 (MExN): With a mission to promote organic cultivation in Nagaland, two training programmes on ‘Application of Bio-control agents and vermicompost in plant and soil’ were conducted on March 2 and 12 in Medziphema village and Sirhi Angami village of Chümoukedima district respectively.
The programmes were organised by Department of Horticulture, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University funded by DBT-NECAB project, AAU, Jorhat, stated a press release received here.

The programme was chaired by Dr Nini R Kuotsu in Medziphem village and Mezhiikho Kuotsu (Village Council Chairman) in Sirhi Angami village.
Altogether, 43 farmers participated in these training programmes. The resource persons, Dr Bireswar Sinha (Professor), Department of Plant Pathology and Dr L Hemanta (Assistant Professor), Department of Horticulture, SAS, NU imparted skills on how to make indigenous effective microorganisms, bokashi, compost, vermicompost and biological control of pests and diseases using locally available eco-friendly resources in hill ecosystem.
Dr A Sarkar, Project PI, Nagaland centre highlighted the significance of organic cultivation and biodiversity conservation. He also stressed on having a healthy society in Nagaland especially for protection from the menace of cancer in future.
