



Kohima, October 2 (MExN): A Tribal Fiesta with ‘igniting cultural traditions’ as its theme was celebrated at State Academy Hall, Kohima with Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas C as the special guest on September 30. The programme was organized by the District Cultural Office, Kohima, Department of Arts and Culture.
According to a DIPR report, DC Shanavas said that such events would allow different cultural troupes to come together and showcase their culture and traditions. Stating that culture and traditions are the identities of oneself, he urged the gathering to preserve and practice God's given rich culture and traditions.
Shanavas recalled the experience in different parts of Nagaland, and wondered as to how such diverse culture and traditions have accumulated in the geographically small state. The DC also talked about the Morungs in the Naga villages and remarked that the Morung concept of education is a welcoming initiative where traditional arts and crafts are taught. He suggested that the Art and Culture Department collaborate with the School Education Department in organizing Youth Festivals, which can enable youths to embrace the importance and value of one's culture and traditions.
Further stating that protecting one's own culture and traditions is as important as respecting others’, he encouraged the gathering to adjust to other cultures with due respect, learn from others while staying rooted in their own culture. The DC also enlightened the students on the value of getting exposed outside the parameters to bring quality changes back home.
Meanwhile, District Cultural Officer, Kohima, Haichenlo Kath said that the objective of the programme is to revitalize, preserve and promote the rich culture and traditions of the Nagas and requested the gathering to rekindle and ignite our culture and traditions by keeping the affinity stronger.
As per the DIPR, similar programmes were also held in Chümoukedima and Mon.
Special guest SDO (C) of Chümoukedima, Temsuchuba Jamir spoke about the role of culture in identity and urged the gathering to carry forward the continuity and changes of our culture into the future without changing its values.
In Mon, DC Ajit Kumar Verma emphasized the importance of culture in way of life and for sustainable development while DCO Peter Thanghoi Thai encouraged participants to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage. He urged the young artists to keep up the tradition of their forefathers.
