Mokokchung, May 12 (MExN): A 2-day Tribal Artisans Mela (TAM) was formally inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh at Town Hall Mokokchung on May 12.
The mela is being organised by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd (TRIFED) under Union Tribal Affair Ministry flagship programme “Marketing and logistic development for promoting tribal products from North Eastern Region (PTRNER)” in collaboration with State implementing agency, MARCOFED.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Singh proposed regular interaction between the implementing agencies and the local artisans to bring about better marketing strategy.
While highlighting some concerns of the local artisans, he said due to lack of proper marketing linkages and awareness of products demand in the market, the artisans are not able to expand their marketing beyond the State, a DIPR report informed.
Accordingly, Singh requested the concern agencies to explore and create awareness for better opportunities.
Local artisans seeking instant profit is not viable in context with the highly competitive market, he further noted, and urged them ponder on this issue.
He also emphasised on the need to promote specific products which are peculiar to the region.
Col M Mehra, GM, TRIFED Head Office, meanwhile, noted that federation is there identify local products which can be promoted by expanding their marketing scope through better platform and also to provide assistance to enhance the values of their products.
Earlier, Thehose Sangtam, Assistant Manager & Nodal officer for MSP& MFP scheme MARCOFED chaired the programme and delivered the welcome address while vote of thanks was proposed by Asif Ekbal Hussain, Senior program Executive, TRIFED North East.
The two-day mela will be providing a platform for the local artisans to exhibit their products and avail the assistance under the banner of PTRNER, the report added.
