Wokha, January 18 (MExN): Tritons CC Mokokchung defeated LCYO to lift the 26th Winter Cricket Challenge T20 trophy at the Wokha local ground on January 17.
Despite a valiant 44-ball knock of 56 from Renjamo Tungoe, the LCYO batting floundered to be dismissed for only 126 runs in 19.6 overs. Rendemo Mozhui was the other, who made a mark with the bat for LCYO, scoring a steady 17 from 23 balls.
Some superb bowling from Tritons’ Arjun Kumar (2 wickets) and Bidesi Nayak (3 wickets) ensured the LCYO batting collapse.
Defending a fairly small total, LCYO almost took the match early on by claiming 4 quick wickets. But aggressive batting displays from Mrinmoy Dutta (31-not out in 21 ball and a 15-ball 24 runs from Vikram Rawat 24 steadied the Tritons ship and wrpping up the match in 15.5 over with the loss of 6 wickets.
David Yanthan (2 wickets) was the pick of the LCYO bowlers, whose spell included a maiden. Mrinmoy Dutta was the Player of the Match.
The champion team received Rs 80,000 in cash prize, sponsored by the Nagaland Cricket Association. The members of both the teams were also given tree saplings for planting.
Arjun Kumar of Tritons CC Mokokchung was declared the Player of the Tournament.
Rs 81200 collected for charity
An exhibition match between the DC Wokha XI and SNK President XI resulted in the collection of Rs 81,200, received in the form of goodwill donations, which the organizers said, will be handed away to the families of the Oting victims.
While the benefit match collected an amount of INR 81200 which was received from various cricket lovers and from the organizers, later the contributed money collected will be sent to Oting victims’ families informed by SNK the organisers of WCC. DC XI won the match by four wickets, while Chonbenthung Ezung was adjudged the Player of the Match award.
