Mokokchung, October 27 (MExN): Tuensang defeated Zunheboto 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time to book their place in the grand finale of the 25th Dr T Ao Inter-District Football Championship, Silver Jubilee Edition. They will face defending champions Mon on October 29.
In the second semi-final played at Mokokchung on October 27, Tuensang took an early lead through Sentisang, who found the net in the eighth minute to put his side ahead 1-0.
Zunheboto, however, fought back and restored parity in the 58th minute through Ngukape, bringing the score to 1-1. Neither team managed to score again before the final whistle, forcing the contest into a penalty shootout to determine the second finalist.
Tuensang converted their chances from the spot to win the shootout 4-3, ending Zunheboto’s campaign in the tournament and securing a place in the final against Mon.
The match saw two yellow cards, with Zunheboto’s Mangholen booked in the 49th minute and Tuensang’s Relithong cautioned in the 59th minute.
The semi-final was preceded by a short programme attended by Daochir I Imchen, Advisor for Information and Public Relations and Soil and Water Conservation, Government of Nagaland, as the guest of honour.
The programme was hosted by Nichet Jamir, while N Bendang Jamir, co-convenor of the organising committee, delivered the welcome address. A special number titled “A Tribute” was performed by Temsuwapang, Tajungmenla and Susan before the guest of honour addressed the gathering.
With the semi-finals concluded, the Silver Jubilee Edition will culminate in a clash between Tuensang and defending champions Mon. The final is scheduled for October 29 at 4 pm.
Mon secured their place in the final earlier, setting up a contest against Tuensang for the championship title.
