Tuensang, August 28 (MExN): Nagaland Minister for Housing and Mechanical Engineering, P Bashangmongba Chang, on Saturday inaugurated the new Superintendent of Police (SP) Office building in Tuensang, terming it a “significant milestone” in strengthening the district's law enforcement infrastructure.
Chang said the new building was not just a government structure but a reaffirmation of the state's commitment to public safety and institutional development, a DIPR report stated.
“This is not merely the inauguration of a government building, but also the strengthening of an important institution entrusted with maintaining peace, security, law and order, and ensuring the safety of the people,” the Minister said in his address.
He noted that the Police Department has served the district with dedication since its inception, often functioning under difficult conditions. The construction of a modern, well-equipped office, he added, had been a long-pending need and was a welcome step forward.
The new facility, Chang said, symbolises the growth and professionalism of the police force and reflects a renewed focus on public service. “The facility will provide a better working environment for police personnel and enable them to discharge their responsibilities more efficiently,” he added.
Highlighting the evolving nature of crime, the Minister pointed out that policing challenges are no longer limited to the physical domain. With rapid technological advancements, he said, cybercrime, online fraud, and other tech-enabled offences are emerging as serious threats.
“The police force must continuously upgrade its skills, embrace new technologies, and remain prepared to meet the changing needs and challenges of society,” he stressed.
Chang also acknowledged the continued support of Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton in strengthening police infrastructure across the state and improving public service delivery.
Observing that police officers are often the first point of contact for citizens in distress, he urged the department to remain professional, firm in maintaining law and order, and committed to preserving peace and security.
Referring to Tuensang’s rich social and cultural diversity, the Minister called for a collective approach to maintaining harmony. “The Police Department, civil administration, traditional institutions, community leaders, civil society organisations, and the public must work together to preserve peace, security, and communal harmony in the district,” he said.
The programme was chaired by Dr Akash Sinha (IPS) SDPO Tuensang while a dedicatory prayer led by Changsang, Pastor, PBC Tuensang, Technical report was presented by Chobenthung Ezung, SDO, Police Engineering Project, Tuensang. The programme also featured speeches by Pakhiu Khaim, Vice President, ENPO, and R Vikram Ezung, DIG, NAP Range, along with a special presentation by Mününü Vero.
