DIMAPUR, AUGUST 19 (MExN): Coinciding with the 73rd Independence Day Celebration, the Tuli Area Running Penalty Shootout Trophy was conducted at Tuli on August 15.

Altogether, 21 teams comprising of Government departments, wards of Tuli and Tzudikong, GBs and NGOs participated in the competition. Tuliyong Ward came out the eventual winners after defeating Patizung Ward in the final.

The tournament had its inception in 1994 when under the request of Gitano Club Tuli, the running trophy was donated by the present Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Temjen Toy, IAS, the then ADC Tuli. Initially known as the Temjen Toy Football Trophy and under his advice, it was renamed as Tuli Area Running Football Trophy in 2006.

After a decade of dormancy, the tournament was revived in its new avatar of the Tuli Area Running Penalty Shootout Trophy. A press release from the organisers said “this is made possible because of Imsongmeren, ADC Tuli who initiated the revival in consultation with Temjen Toy who has also sponsored a new trophy.”
