Tuluni Festival celebrated in Hovukhu village

Hovukhu village in Niuland organized a Tuluni cultural festival on July 7 and 8 at the village local ground.


The festival was an initiative of the Hovukhu Students' Union with the support of the Hovukhu Village Council.


Understanding the importance of social distancing during the pandemic, the festival was observed with strict compliance to the safety measures as per government guidelines, the village authority informed.


With the aim to revive the indigenous and cultural heritage of the Sumi tribe, the youth were encouraged to make use of the traditional gears and ethnic wears.


Some of the traditional games which were played during the festival were:  Amikükla (fire making), Asü Yeghi Kukulu (wooden cart racing), Angu Kupusu (spear kicking), Athi Ghakuxu (rice winnowing competition), Awudu Kumgho (Cock fight), Arm Wrestling, Akhetsu Tsukuxu (Top spinning competition), etc.
