After nearly three years away from the spotlight, Nagaland-based synthwave and pop-rock band Tune Up Channel has returned with renewed energy, a new vocalist and a fresh musical direction.
The band officially launched its latest music video for the single “No More Shot” at an event held on September 1 at Whispering Winds, D.C. Hill, Mokokchung. The launch marked a new chapter for the group, which has been part of Nagaland’s independent music scene for more than a decade.
Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, attended the event as the guest of honour and unveiled the music video.
Speaking at the launch, Verma described the launch as a significant milestone for the district and praised Tune Up Channel’s decade-long contribution to Nagaland’s music culture.
He highlighted the importance of supporting young artists and noted that Mokokchung has considerable potential to produce innovative music and socially meaningful creative work. He also expressed hope that the band’s comeback would open new opportunities for younger musicians across the district and the state.
Originally formed in 2015, Tune Up Channel brings together musicians from diverse musical backgrounds. Its sound is shaped by retro synthwave, 1980s pop-rock and the individual artistic identities of its members.
The band’s current lineup features new vocalist Sentien Kichu, guitarist Temjen Lemtur, keyboardist Ayu Mongro and drummer Avizo Solo.
With Kichu joining as the new vocalist, Tune Up Channel is entering a renewed phase of its creative journey. The band’s latest release, “No More Shot,” represents the first major step in that comeback and is expected to introduce listeners to its evolving sound.
The group is also working on an upcoming EP, which will explore a fresh musical direction while maintaining the retro-inspired style that has defined its identity.
Over the years, the band has earned recognition through several competitions, including Best Nagaland Band at the Hornbill International Contest in 2015, Winner of the Youth Fest Clash of Bands in 2016 and Best Original Song at the NSACS Life Now Beat Contest in 2017.
The band has also performed at major events across India. Its notable appearances include the Orange Festival in Dambuk, Arunachal Pradesh, in 2016; headlining the Hornbill International Music Festival in 2017 and 2021; and opening for Los Angeles-based international synthwave band The Midnight during their India tour in Mizoram and Nagaland in 2023.
With a decade of experience behind them, a new vocalist at the forefront and an upcoming EP in development, Tune Up Channel is looking to build on its past achievements while moving confidently into the future.
