The Tuophema Village Youth & Sports Organisation (TVY&SO) lifted the football champion of the 1st Northern Angami Youth & Sports Association -Group D (NAYSA-D) Presidential Trophy 2024.
In the men’s football final match played between Seiyhama Village Youth & Sports and Tuophema Village Youth & Sports emerged as the champion by scoring 3 goals.
They were awarded with cash price of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 70,000 respectively.
In women’s volleyball Seiyhama Village Youth & Sports Organisation emerged as the champion with Botsa Village Youth & Sports Organisation as the runners up.
The winning teams were awarded with cash prize of Rs 50000 and Rs 30000.
Gracing the grand finale match held at Botsa Ground as the special guest, MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, today lauded the NAYSA-D group for organizing a year-long sports tournament for the youth.
He highlighted the initiative’s potential to inspire others and encouraged the adoption of similar programme.
Dr Rhütso also emphasized the growing importance of non-traditional sports like shooting, table tennis, and archery as potential professional careers. While acknowledging the value of athletic pursuits, he stressed the equal significance of education in today’s competitive world.
Urging students and parents to embrace education and employment opportunities, he advised the parents not to discourage their children in their pursuit of government jobs, due to lack of political connections.
Stating that meritocracy in the form of NSSB & NPSC have been introduced, where any person irrespective of political connections can excel through merit, he maintained that hard work, sincerity and dedication would be rewarded.
The 1st Presidential Trophy 2024 was kicked off in February 2024 culminating at Botsa Village on November 16.
NAYSA-D Referee board, officiated women’s volleyball while Kohima District Football Referee Association officiated men’s football.
The twelve villages under NAYSA-D are Chiechama, Nachama, Seiyhama, Tuophema, Tsiemekhuma, Botsa, Gariphe Basa, Tuophe Phezou, Gariphema, Tsiemekhu Basa, Seiyha Phesa and Teichüma.
