Two arrested for murder in Kohima district

Kohima, October 21 (MExN): Two persons were arrested on October 17 and 18 in connection with the murder of one Manoranjan Nath @ Mani aged about 45 years, who was working as a carpenter in Tsiesema Basa Village Baptist Church. 

According to a press release from the Kohima Police PRO on Friday, Nath was reported missing since September 25, was found dead on September 28. Accordingly, a case was registered at Chiephobozou Police Station and investigation taken up. 

During investigation, it came to light that two persons, who were working with the deceased as his assistants and were last seen with the deceased, were also missing since September 25. Leads in the investigation were followed and as a result, one of the accused identified as Dulon Roy @ Dulu (30 yrs) of Karimganj, Assam was arrested by Kohima Police from an isolated location along Nagaland-Assam border on October 17 while the co-accused person identified as Manjit Biswas (27 yrs) of Hojai, Assam who was sheltering in Hojai under Lanka PS jurisdiction, was also arrested from his hideout in the wee hours of October 18 by Kohima Police team led by SDPO (North), the release stated. 

It said that the “two arrested accused persons have confessed to have committed the crime.” They visited the victim’s house on the evening of September 25 and consumed liquor together. “They picked up a quarrel and during which the accused persons assaulted the victim making him unconscious. After tying the hands and legs of the victim, the accused persons strangulated him with a rope made from the piece of their shirt,” the release stated.
