The General Convention of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) today unanimously approved the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) into its fold through a show of hands by all active members present, demonstrating absolute ratification of the resolutions adopted by the party’s Central Office Bearers (COB) and Central Executive Council (CEC) on October 18, 2025.

A total of 5,000 active members of the party attended the convention held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, which coincided with the 63rd Foundation Day of the party.

NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon sought the endorsement of the members for the merger of the NDPP (both political and legislature wings) with the NPF.

After all agreed to the merger by raising their hands, Kikon declared that the merger of the NDPP with the NPF “is complete, validated, and legitimised” through the General Convention. He said that the same would be communicated to the Election Commission of India as a sign of the total merger of the NDPP with the NPF.

Later, in the form of resolution, the convention unanimously approved the merger of the NDPP with the NPF.

It also unanimously elected a new team of COBs, the Central Executive Council (CEC), and office bearers of the Frontals and Cells through a show of hands, signifying the collective approval of the house for the tenure 2025–2030.

The newly elected team of COBs is led by Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio as President of the NPF, and the convention resolved to extend its full confidence and support to his leadership in the dual roles.

The convention placed on record its appreciation of the bold decision of the NDPP under the leadership of Chingwang Konyak and the ‘sagacious’ guidance of Dr Rio in arriving at the historic consensus to unify the two regional parties into one strong political entity.

Party vows to strengthen PDA, NDA and NEDA ties
Another resolution was adopted to continue strengthening the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in Nagaland and to remain a contributing member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).

The party shall continue to make all possible efforts to consolidate these alliances so as to accelerate inclusive development, ensure progress in all sectors, and contribute meaningfully towards the achievement of genuine peace in Nagaland and Manipur, it adopted.

Settlement of Naga political issue indispensable
An early and honourable settlement of the protracted Naga political issue is indispensable for enabling the youth to participate meaningfully in the pursuit of development and self-reliance, stated another resolution adopted at the convention and communicated by Resolution Committee Convenor Khongjah Konyak.

The convention also urged the Government of India and the Naga political groups to expedite the negotiation process and arrive at a solution that is honourable, acceptable, and inclusive.

It also expressed its gratitude for the prayerful support of the Church, the moral encouragement of the public, and the goodwill extended by the elders and pioneers of the NPF.

The party appealed to all sections of society to continue extending their blessings and support to the NPF in the years to come.

Further, the convention reiterated its earlier COB and CEC resolutions calling upon all old comrades and regionally minded citizens to join the NPF in the interest of the people.
