Two caught with phensedyl

The arrested duo alongwith seized contraband in the custody of the RPF, Dimapur on March 12.

DIMAPUR, MARCH 12 (MExN): Two brothers were caught with 1257 bottles codeine-based phensedyl cough syrup at the Dimapur railway station on Tuesday, March 12. The brother, identified as Thangno Thomte (31 years) and PC Lian Thomte (26 years), hailing from Simveng New Lamka, Churachandpur, Manipur were enroute Churachandpur via Dimapur when they were caught with the contraband by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). They had come from Delhi. 

According to officer-in-charge of RPF, Dimapur railway station, the duo was hired by a person to transport the illicit consignment from Delhi to be delivered to a contact in Churachandpur in return for Rs. 10, 000. They were said to have been working for a private company before the arrest.  

The retail price of phensedyl in Delhi is Rs 80. But in the illicit drug market of Manipur, one 100 ml bottle is worth no less than Rs. 300. The street value of the day’s seizure is estimated at around Rs. 3, 77, 000.
