Kohima, September 22 (MExN): A two-day training on Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) and e-Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR) for stakeholders in Nagaland began on September 20 at Hotel Vivor, Kohima. The event, organized by the Motor Vehicles Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Nagaland State Centre (NIC), and NICSI Central Team, aimed to enhance road safety and streamline the management of road accident data in the state.
Speaking at the event, Secretary of the Transport Department, Robert Longchari, emphasized the significant impact of road usage on daily life, noting that while road transport has made travel more convenient, it has also increased the risk of accidents, resulting in loss of lives and serious injuries. He informed that District Road Safety Committees have been established across Nagaland to implement year-round road safety programs. The Motor Vehicles Department, as the lead agency, monitors and coordinates these efforts to ensure compliance with the parameters set by the Nagaland Road Safety Authority and the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety.
Longchari highlighted that the implementation of iRAD and e-DAR will provide an integrated data platform for instant information, a systematic mechanism for processing accident reports, and claims management, all enabled electronically. He urged all stakeholders to collaborate on this common platform to reduce the accident and fatality rates in the state and improve road safety and infrastructure.
Transport Commissioner Elias T. Lotha, in his keynote address, stated that the Nagaland Road Safety Policy, adopted in 2017, was developed to address road safety concerns and promote safer road usage in the state. He emphasized the importance of adopting safety measures as a way of life and called for mission-mode advancement of these approaches. “Roads are built for everyone, and all road users must exercise courtesy,” he added.
Chief General Manager of NICSI New Delhi, Jitender Kumar, provided an overview of iRAD and e-DAR, explaining that the database, developed by MoRTH, serves as a central repository for reporting, management, claim processing, and analysis of road accident data to enhance road safety nationwide.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Additional Transport Commissioner Keneingunuo Clara, followed by a presentation on the status of iRAD and e-DAR in Nagaland by SIO NIC Lanusungkum Aier.
In the evening session, Pawan Gupta, Program Manager for iRAD/e-DAR NICSI New Delhi, discussed data visualization and analytics, comparing road safety initiatives in India and Nagaland as of July 2024. He also shared insights on road safety initiatives, suggestions for improvement, and the overview of the cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims during the golden hour.
