
DIMAPUR, MARCH 20 (MExN): A two-day training program on organic and natural farming was conducted for extension officers and field functionaries of the Nagaland State Agriculture Department from March 18 to 19 at the training hall of ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur. The training was organized by the Regional Centre for Organic and Natural Farming (RCONF), Imphal, in collaboration with ICAR-KVK Dimapur.
The inaugural session was attended by Boidevi Shuya, District Agriculture Officer of Chumoukedima, who was the special guest. Dr Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK Dimapur, delivered the welcome address, and Narendra Chaudhari, Junior Scientific Officer at RCONF, Imphal, provided an overview of the training program and the objectives of RCONF.
Over the two days, participants were provided with technical lectures, hands-on practical sessions, and field visits, led by experts from ICAR-KVK Dimapur. The training covered several key topics, including the need and benefits of organic farming, pest and disease management, soil health and nutrient management, post-harvest handling of organic produce, integrated organic farming systems, the role of livestock in organic farming, government schemes for promoting organic farming, bio-input preparation, certification systems in organic farming, and marketing and branding of organic products.
The valedictory session was presided over by Dr Homeswar Kalita, Head of the Regional Station ICAR Nagaland Centre, and included several notable guests, including Boidevi Shuya, Thepusa Nakro (District Agriculture Officer, Chümoukedima), Kevizhalhou Kuotsu (SADO Medziphema), and Dr Phool Kumari.
During the session, participants received certificates and Assam lemon saplings. The program was coordinated by Narendra Chaudhari, Junior Scientific Officer at RCONF, Imphal.
