Two Dimapur schools assessed

Dimapur, May 4 (MExN): The Mayangnokcha Award Trust has completed grading two more schools in Dimapur, Government Higher Secondary School, Chumukedima and St. Mary Montessori & High School.
Mayangnokcha Award Trust under the “Year of Capacity Building” of the Nagaland government first initiated the school assessment programme during 2008-09. This is a voluntary programme and that only those schools that wish to be assessed, and submits the requisite information leading to the final Self-Evaluative Report, are assessed. However, at this stage, due to resource constraints, the programme is limited to schools within Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung only, the Trust informed in a note today.
On June 29, 2010, the results of 14 graded schools were released at Hotel Japfü, Kohima, by the ‘Minister Education’ the note said.
With the national policy of Right to Education (RTE), new pedagogy and no detention, the emphasis is now being shifted away from an exam centric approach to education, to a more comprehensive and holistic development of a child, the Trust stated. “Continuous assessment of schools and the various parameters of teaching environment and learning shall therefore become more and more critical. Assessment and Accreditation of schools therefore needs to invariably become integral components of a healthy educational system.”
Assessment and accreditation by an independent and creditable third party is being encouraged by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development towards ensuring quality education. “We hope that Nagaland shall be able to achieve such a distinction,” the Trust added.
