Two teenagers were killed after a Gypsy allegedly rammed multiple vehicles and ran over two pedestrians at Veterinary Colony near the ATM Booth in Burma Camp, Dimapur, on August 29.
According to a release from the Dimapur Police PRO, telephonic information was received at around 7:45 pm about a vehicular accident at the location.
Traffic personnel rushed to the spot and, following verification and enquiry, ascertained that a Gypsy had allegedly hit a Royal Enfield motorcycle, a Maruti car and a pickup auto before running over the two pedestrians.
The Dimapur Police further informed that the Gypsy driver, identified as 25-year-old Bumei Phom, has been arrested, without divulging further details on the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Meanwhile, the victims were identified as 15-year-old Macagbou Charenamai, a resident of Burma Camp, Dimapur, originally from Senapati, Manipur, and 17-year-old Gaisinlung Thangmei, from Kohima Naga Bazar and residing in Naga Colony, Burma Camp.
Both sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital. Charenamai was declared dead at the District Hospital, Dimapur, while Thangmei succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Nikos Hospital, Dimapur, the police said.
A case has been registered at East Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, and further investigation is underway, it added.
